Mad for Madeline!

This post is in honor of my friend Erica who I got to visit right before we adopted Madeline in ABQ and of course for Mackenzie our old puppy who we miss so much.

We adopted Maddy over our Thanksgiving Break.  It was a really tough choice to quickly turn around and adopt a new puppy after having lost Mackenzie.  When I lost my first Bichon-mix, Piggy I waited three years.  With kids, especially Harmon so sad I rushed a little.  Madeline has been a wonderfully solid addition to our home and we love her to death.  She is very sweet and kind, especially around the kids.  Everyone loves her.

Harmon considers Maddy his dog.  I'm good with that.  He feeds her and helps us with her quite a bit.  I'm proud of him.  He is becoming quite a leader.  Still she is my fluff ball.  She loves that I work from home and often snuggles with me all day while I'm working.  Miriam adores her.  She gives Maddy a better greeting than I often get.

The only challenge we are having with her is potty training!  Her obedience classes had to wait till the trainer came back for the holidays.  We start next week and it is not a moment too soon.  You would think after last year potty training twins a puppy would be easy but honestly, it is so hard!  When we trained Kenzie my best friend Jaimie helped me a lot by pet sitting her and letting her dog Holly show her the ropes.  Also we were in a small apartment so she couldn't sneak away from us.  Maddy sneaks, and especially in my office I find small unpleasant surprises.

But I've done this several times in my life and I know with patience, training, and help with our new crate Maddy will learn.  She is great and I hope she is part of our family for years and years to come!!!

Also as an added bonus our warring cats have made friends!  I guess they just had to realize compared to a new puppy each other was pretty cool.  They used to always be arguing but now like two little old men they just chill together all day I think making remarks about that darn puppy :p
