The pressure of perfection...

I need to learn that the words perfect and mother do not go in the same sentence. In fact I don't think the words perfect and living go together. I've been trying to balance so much these last few weeks (work, Early Intervention, sick kids... heck just having kids everywhere I turn!) and today I realized I am so tired. I just want to cry I am so tired. Yet here I am obsessing about t-shirts for tomorrows walk. How stupid am I? I dunno, I think perhaps Chris and I need a vacation this summer to maybe Puerto Rico or something like that... YES... a nice long vacation away from my obsessive need to be perfect in everything.

  1. Cool thing I learned on the mission. During Christ's ministery he says "be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in Heaven is perfect." After his resurrection he says "Be ye therefore perfect, even as I am." While it is a commandment to be perfect, it is not attainable in this life. Knowing that has helped me a lot. Though I don't think it is possible to get away from the desire to be the perfect mother, wife, friend, house cleaner, etc. We women suffer from our own judgment far too much. We just expect too much from ourselves. Be kind to yourself. You have twins. They are tiny. You have a toddler. You are amazing and beautiful. And go get that vacation. You do deserve it.

  2. My new favorite saying, which is supposed to be a Chinese proverb, but it doesn't sound like one to me, is: "Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are." I don't think I'll get it right in this life, but I'm sure gonna keep trying! I think Puerto Rico sounds like a great place to relax and reconnect with who you really are!
